Dr. Michael Van Antwerp of ZOVA will be joining us to discuss and demonstrate mobility and recovery techniques. Dr. Van Antwerp is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, Certified Pedorthist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner, and a Crossfit Movement and Mobility Certificate holder. He is active in the running, cycling, strength, yoga and Crossfit communities so he knows firsthand what we put our bodies through. He has helped a lot of people get back to what they love after injury and promotes taking steps to prevent injuries.
Rest is a combination of sleep and time spent not training. Recovery refers to techniques and actions taken to maximize your body’s repair. Recovery is more than just muscle repair. It includes hydration, nutrition, posture, heat, ice, stretching, stress management, compression, and time spent standing versus sitting versus lying down.
Dedicating time to sleep, hydration, nutrition and self-care will increase your output ability, decrease recovery time, and lower your risk of injury. This is important to understand, or else you may take a ‘more is better’ approach and think that if you exercise as much as you can (or as hard as you can) every day you will get results faster. In reality, you would be setting yourself up for over-training and possibly start suffering from repetitive stress injuries. Don’t ignore your body until it becomes too late and you’re forced to take unnecessary time off due to injury, burnout, or worse.
